Short answer: A baguette ring is made with thin, rectangular stones known as “baguette cut”. Baguettes do not sparkle like a round brilliant; they give a calmer, mirror-like, architectural light. In Turkey the most popular designs have a block of baguette stones in the centre surrounded by tiny round stones.
What does baguette cut mean?
The baguette cut (French baguette, “little stick”) belongs to the step-cut family: the surface of the stone is made of flat, parallel steps, as in the emerald cut. While the 57 facets of a round brilliant break up and scatter light, a baguette has a few broad facets. The result: a round stone “sparkles” and a baguette “shines”; one throws light, the other reflects it like a mirror.
That is why baguettes are usually used together with round stones rather than alone: the baguettes in the centre create a clean, geometric surface, and the round stones around them add the sparkle.
Baguette ring designs
- Block designs that look like a solitaire: Several baguettes set side by side in the centre create the effect of one large stone, framed by round stones. They give the look of a big stone in a more affordable way. This is the largest group in our gallery.
- Baguette bands and half eternity rings: Baguettes run side by side in a single row around the band. Clean and modern. See the baguette half eternity design.
- Mixed rows: A baguette and a round stone alternate, balancing sparkle and calm.
- Baguette earrings and necklaces: The same language works in earrings and necklaces, so it is easy to make a set.
All the baguette designs made in our workshop are in the model gallery; you can write to us with the model number of any design.
What to check when choosing a baguette ring
How well the stones match
The beauty of a baguette ring depends on how well the stones match each other. The baguettes should have the same length, width and colour, with no gaps between them. In a row of baguettes, a single mismatched stone catches the eye at once. That is why baguette work calls for a skilled stone setter; in the workshop every stone is fitted one by one.
Clarity matters more
Step cuts show the inside of the stone “like a window”; the light of a round cut hides small marks, but a baguette does not. So clarity is kept a little higher for baguettes. We explain the grades in colour and clarity.
Protecting the corners
A baguette’s corners are sharp and more sensitive to knocks than a round stone. In a good setting the corners are protected by prongs or a channel. When buying, check that the corners are not left exposed.
Baguette or round? If you want constant sparkle in everyday wear, choose round; if you want a calm, clean, “jewel-like” look, choose baguette. That is why block designs that combine the two are the most loved.
What sets the price of a baguette ring?
The price depends not on one stone but on the total carat and number of stones, how well they match, the gold weight of the setting and the workmanship. Two baguette rings that look alike are priced differently according to the clarity and colour of their stones. Baguette designs made with lab-grown diamonds are noticeably more affordable than their natural-stone equivalents; we explain what sets the price separately. Instead of a fixed list, send us the model number of the design you like and we will give you the current price.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Designs with a block of baguettes in the centre and round stones around them are often chosen instead of a solitaire; they give the look of a large stone in a simpler way. Decide by their style: how to choose an engagement ring. Baguette is not a type of stone but a cut. A baguette-cut diamond is a real diamond; baguettes are cut from both lab-grown and natural diamonds. What the stone is, is shown by its certificate and the seller’s statement. Yes; just choose a setting that protects the corners and avoid hard knocks. Taking it off for sport, heavy work and sleep is good advice for any diamond ring. If the stones do not go all the way around the band, yes, it can be resized. Fully stone-set designs such as full eternity rings are hard to resize, so the size must be right from the start: how to find your ring size.Is a baguette ring suitable for a proposal?
