Short answer: A diamond set is a group of diamond pieces designed to go together: usually a ring and earrings, completed with a necklace and a bracelet. The beauty of a set comes from the pieces speaking the same language: the same stone shape, the same gold colour and balanced stone sizes. You do not have to buy the set all at once; you can start with one piece and complete it over time.
The most loved types of set
Solitaire set
A solitaire ring, solitaire stud earrings and a solitaire necklace. It is the simplest and most timeless set; it is worn every day and suits every outfit. Each piece is strong on its own too. Solitaire earrings · solitaire necklace.
Tennis set
A tennis necklace and a tennis bracelet, sometimes completed with a full eternity ring. It is the most glamorous set for evening events and weddings. Tennis necklace · tennis bracelet.
Baguette set
A baguette ring, baguette earrings and a baguette necklace: a clean, modern, calm light. For those who love everyday elegance. Baguette earrings · baguette necklace.
Teardrop (pear) set
A pear-cut solitaire ring, drop earrings and a pear necklace. A graceful, romantic set; a favourite for special occasions. Pear cut.
How do you match the pieces?
- The same gold colour: for the set to feel whole, all the pieces should be the same colour: white, yellow or rose. Choosing a gold colour.
- The same stone shape: oval earrings with an oval ring, round earrings with a round ring. Mixed shapes work too, but a single shape makes the set calmer.
- Balanced stone sizes: because earrings sit close to the face, they look balanced even if their stones are a little smaller than the ring’s.
- Similar quality: when the pieces sit side by side, a colour difference should not stand out; their colour grades should be close.
Completing a set piece by piece
Many people complete a set over the years rather than all at once: first the engagement ring, then solitaire earrings on an anniversary, then a necklace. This eases the budget and gives each piece its own memory. What matters is to record the stone shape and gold colour of the first piece; the next pieces are made to match. Anniversary gift ideas.
What sets the price of a set?
The price of a set is the sum of its pieces; in each, the total carat of the stones, their colour and clarity, the gold purity and weight and the workmanship decide the price. With sets made from lab-grown diamonds, especially tennis pieces with many stones, the budget can stretch to a much fuller set of the same quality. What sets the price?
For a bridal set: a full eternity ring or a tennis set is much loved at weddings, but the neckline of the wedding dress matters too. With a bateau or strapless neckline, a tennis necklace looks best; with a high neckline, a set that puts the earrings forward works better.
Which piece should you start with?
Starting a set with a ring is most common, because the ring sets the stone shape and gold colour. If everyday wear is the plan, solitaire earrings become the second piece that is worn and noticed most.
