White, Yellow or Rose Gold?
Gold colour changes how a diamond looks and the character of the ring. We compared the three gold colours by stone, skin tone and style.

Short answer: White gold makes a diamond look its whitest and biggest and gives a modern, simple look; it needs re-plating over time. Yellow gold is classic and warm, can reflect a little warmth into the stone, and is easy to care for. Rose gold is soft and romantic, suits every skin tone and is durable. When choosing, look at your skin, your style, the stone’s colour and the other jewellery you will wear with it.
Three gold colours
White gold
Made by alloying gold with white metals and plating it with rhodium. Because it shares the diamond’s cool tone, it makes the stone look its whitest and biggest. Over time the rhodium wears thinner and needs renewing. Does white gold turn yellow? · white gold wedding bands.
Yellow gold
The colour closest to gold’s natural colour, and the most classic. Warm and timeless; in recent years it has become very popular again for solitaires. Its colour comes from the alloy, so it needs no plating.
Rose gold
A pinkish tone made by increasing the proportion of copper in the alloy. Romantic, soft and modern; durable thanks to the copper. Its colour comes from the alloy and does not fade.

Choosing by skin tone
Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in daylight:
- Bluish veins (cool undertone): white gold usually suits you best.
- Greenish veins (warm undertone): yellow and rose gold light up your skin.
- In between (neutral): all three colours suit you; choose by your style.
This is a tip, not a rule; best of all is to see the same ring in all three colours.
By style and other jewellery
Look at the colour of the watch, earrings and bracelets you wear every day; a ring in the same colour gives a unified look. Wearing different colours together can also give a modern look as a deliberate style: a white gold solitaire with a slim yellow gold band, for example. Stacking rings.
Two colours at once: on solitaires with a yellow or rose gold band, it is common to make the prongs that hold the stone from white gold: the band keeps its warm colour and the stone looks white. Gold solitaire rings.
When the band and the solitaire go together
A solitaire and a band worn on the same finger look calmest in the same colour. In a pair of wedding bands, the same colour ties together two rings of different widths. Wearing a solitaire and a band together · a pair of wedding bands.
