A thin wedding band looks elegant both on its own and next to a solitaire. We explain how many millimetres count as thin, plain and diamond styles, and comfort.

Short answer: A slim wedding band usually means a band between 1.5 and 3 millimetres wide. It looks light and delicate on the finger, and very elegant both on its own and next to a solitaire. There are flat, domed and small-diamond designs. When choosing one, besides the width, pay attention to the thickness of the band: a very slim and shallow band can bend over time, while a slim band of sufficient thickness lasts for years.
How many millimetres counts as slim?
| Width | Look |
|---|---|
| 1.5–2 mm | Very slim, thread-like and delicate; good for stacking |
| 2–2.5 mm | Slim and balanced; the most popular range next to a solitaire |
| 2.5–3 mm | Slim but noticeable; ideal for a band worn alone |
| 3.5 mm and over | Medium and wide bands |
Slim wedding band designs
- Plain slim band: simple and timeless, with a polished or matte surface.
- Domed slim band: slightly rounded on top; it sits softer and more comfortably on the finger.
- Slim diamond band: tiny diamonds on its upper half; a fine line of light. Half eternity ring.
- Slim full eternity: tiny stones all the way around; light from every angle. Full eternity ring.
- Curved slim band: a gently curved form that sits under a solitaire.
Why a slim band?
- Delicate: it does not make the hand look heavy and makes the finger look slim.
- Goes with a solitaire: a band as slim as the solitaire’s shank makes the two rings look like one. Wearing a solitaire and a band together.
- Comfortable: it wraps less of the finger joint; you barely feel it in daily life.
- Budget-friendly: because it contains less gold, it costs less than wide designs. What sets wedding band prices?
Durability: thickness as much as width
For a slim band to last, the band must be thick (full) enough. A band made both narrow and shallow can become oval or bend over time. Because 14 karat gold is harder than 18 karat, it is an advantage in slim designs. 14 karat or 18 karat?
A sizing tip: slim bands feel looser on the finger than wide bands. For a band around 2 mm wide, your size may be half a size smaller than the one you use for a wide ring. To be sure, send us your size. Ring size.
Who does it suit?
It suits slim, long fingers with natural harmony; it is the choice of those who love a simple style, want to wear a ring every day, or are looking for a band to go with their solitaire. On fuller fingers, a width of 2.5–3 mm looks more balanced. Choosing a ring for your finger type.
